Criteria for Determining a Scheme's Inclusion in the ACGR

  1. Funds must be provided on a nationally competitive basis and clearly be for research only.
  2. Funds for research must be nationally advertised and available for allocation throughout Australia.
  3. Funding schemes must have a well-defined mechanism for competition and selection by a well-qualified panel.
  4. Grants must involved a direct transfer of funds from the granting agency to a higher education institution.
  5. Grants in kind such as the use of facilities, equipment etc or subsidised travel or accommodation are to be excluded.
  6. Schemes used exclusively to fund student scholarships are to be excluded.
  7. The funding body must agree to provide funding data to the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs and the data must be up to date.
  8. The total annual research budget of a non-Commonwealth research funding scheme must be at least $200,000 for the most recent year.
